Guess who’s back? That’s right, our very own lord and savior Kira Yamato is back with new vocal chords to sing us the song of multi-beam spamming, being a total Mary Sue, reusable animation and plot armor.
Now that all of the basic jokes are out of the way, let’s focus on the important.
Arguably one of the most popular and prolific series to come out of Gundam, SEED is to millennials what Wing was for a lot of other Gundam fans. Actually, it’s in fact my very first entry in the Gundam franchise. Like I wrote in my earlier Eureka Seven article, Gundam SEED aired on YTV to my teenage mecha loving delight.
This spiritual remake of the original Mobile Suit Gundam will now get the same treatment has Escaflowne and receive a brand new dub by NYAV Post (Dub of Gundam Unicorn, Gundam Thunderbolt, Gundam The origin). This comes as a surprise for me and other Gundam fans as the dub of Gundam SEED, while being slightly better than average, has no real reason to be tinkered with. I have already seen on 4chan’s /M/echa board a huge demand for a dub of Turn A Gundam and Gundam ZZ. While this news may not make a lot of people happy, we must remember that SEED’s popularity is still a tangible factor on the fandom, more than ten years after the release of the show; the release of the remastered MG Freedom and MG Providence are a clear sign of that. It is also good to note Sunrise’s HD Remaster of both SEED shows in 2011 and 2013.
This news was released by Sunrise at their panel at Otakon today.
